Even as tourism becomes more prevalent in our village with every passing summer, the main industry in Paleros continues to be agriculture, as it has been in this region for thousands of years. As a result, our culture and festivities are entwined with the land and its produce. Antonis provides the opportunity for those who desire a more personal experience of Paleros, to visit local farms and agricultural centers and achieve a better understanding of our way of life and people.
You can spend some time collecting olives, visit the local oil-mill and feel the pulse of the village, and create your own olive oil to take back home from the olives you picked up.
Explore a few of the local vineyards, taste the local grape and wine varieties and feel like our god of wine, Dionysus. If you want, help prepare the grapes for the wine press and after work, why not try a glass (or more) of the potent local alcoholic spirit Tsipouro. This activity is recommended for the summer months and especially for September, the month of flavors!
Visit a local family and spend some time in their farm, help out with the chores and experience the lifestyle or just enjoy their hospitality and maybe snap some pictures of the local sheep.
Finally, our good friend and beekeeper George (or honey-George) can give you a personal tour of his farm, on the slopes of our mountain, and show you the secrets of honey production. Take a stroll in this unspoiled, beautiful area filled with flowers and aromas that will remind you of the taste of honey. This activity is recommended for the spring months but can also occur throughout the summer season.
